Have you ever tried to put something together without the instructions?

I have. And honestly, it never goes well. You get halfway through, something doesn’t fit, and you realize you missed a step somewhere back at the beginning. So you backtrack, frustrated, wondering why you didn’t just read the guide in the first place.

Life can feel that same way.

I’ve talked with so many people — and I’ve lived through seasons myself — where everything felt scattered. Where I was searching for meaning, trying to figure out who I was, why I was here, and what I was supposed to do with my life. Culture had opinions. Social media had voices. And the world kept shifting its standards so fast that what felt true on Monday was being questioned by Friday.

It’s exhausting.

But here’s what I’ve come to know with everything in me — God did not leave us without direction.

He gave us His Word.

The Bible is so much more than a religious book sitting on a shelf. It is God’s own revelation of Himself to us. Through Scripture, I’ve discovered who God is, why I was created, how I am saved, and how I’m called to live. It is the foundation I keep coming back to, no matter what season I’m in.

What Is the Bible?

The word Bible simply means “book,” but what a book it is.

It’s actually a collection of sixty-six books written over approximately 1,500 years by around forty different authors. When I first learned that, I was amazed. Think about who these writers were — kings and prophets, fishermen and shepherds, teachers and doctors. People from completely different worlds, different centuries, different cultures.

And yet, when I read it, there is one unmistakable, unified message woven through every page: God’s plan to redeem and restore humanity. That’s not an accident. That’s not coincidence. From the very first pages of Genesis all the way to the closing words of Revelation, I can trace God’s love and His relentless desire to bring people back into relationship with Himself. And right at the center of that story — the heartbeat of the entire Bible — is Jesus Christ.

The Old Testament points forward to Him. Every promise, every sacrifice, every prophecy leans toward who He is. Then the New Testament pulls back the curtain and reveals His life, His death, His resurrection, and the hope that is now available to every single one of us because of Him.

When I read the Bible as one story — His story — it changes everything.

God Speaks Through His Word

One of the questions I hear most often is this one:

“Does God still speak today?”

I understand why people ask it. I’ve asked it myself in quiet, desperate moments when I needed to hear something and the silence felt heavy.

Here’s what I’ve learned — one of the primary ways God speaks is through Scripture.

The Bible isn’t simply human wisdom or the collected opinions of religious people throughout history. It is inspired. Holy men, moved by the Holy Spirit, wrote exactly what God intended for us to have.

> “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God…” 2 Timothy 3:16

That word inspiration literally means “God-breathed.” When I hold my Bible, I’m holding something that carries the breath of God in it. That’s not a small thing.

Because the Bible comes from God, it carries authority. It carries truth, correction, wisdom, and life. And when our opinions, emotions, or culture disagree with God’s Word, Scripture must remain our final authority. Through Scripture, I’ve learned how God thinks, what He values, what He promises, and how deeply He loves us. There is no other source that gives me that.

Why the Bible Still Matters Today

We live in a confusing world.

I watch people searching for truth in so many places. In politics, in relationships, in entertainment, in their own feelings. And I understand it, because the longing for truth is real. We were made for it.

But here’s the problem — human opinions constantly shift. What culture says is true today may look completely different ten years from now. Our feelings are real, but they aren’t always reliable. We need something that holds steady when everything around us is moving.

God’s Word does not move.

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:8

I’ve clung to that verse in seasons when my circumstances were shaking. The Bible remains relevant not because it’s trendy, but because human needs have never changed. People still need hope. They still need forgiveness, peace, purpose, healing, and salvation. And God’s Word still meets every one of those needs — just as powerfully today as it ever has.

The Bible Changes Us

Here’s something I want you to really hear — the Bible was never meant to just be studied intellectually. It was meant to transform us from the inside out.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2

I’ve experienced this personally. The more time I spend in God’s Word, the more I notice my thinking beginning to shift. Things that once seemed important start to lose their grip. Fear that once felt overwhelming starts to quiet. The more I read, the more my faith grows, my heart softens, and my relationship with God deepens in ways I can’t always explain but I absolutely feel.

That’s not me being religious. That’s Scripture doing exactly what God promised it would do.

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17

I think of God’s Word like food for my soul. When I’m feeding on it consistently, I feel spiritually strong and grounded. When I neglect it, I notice it — I become more anxious, more easily discouraged, more vulnerable to the noise around me.

We were not meant to live without this.

A Personal Invitation

If you’ve ever felt intimidated by the Bible, I want to sit with you in that for a moment — because I get it. There are passages that confused me. Books I read and didn’t fully understand. Chapters I had to return to again and again before something finally clicked. I’ve been there.

But I want you to know something important — God never gave us His Word to push us away from Him. He gave it to draw us closer. You don’t have to understand everything right away. I certainly didn’t. What matters is that you start.

Start reading.

Start learning.

Start growing.

As you seek God through His Word, the Holy Spirit becomes your guide. He brings understanding where there was confusion and wisdom where there were questions. You are not alone in this — you never were.

The Bible is not simply a book to read. It is truth to live by. And once it gets into you, it changes you in ways nothing else can.

The Foundation Truth

God speaks through His Word, and Scripture provides the foundation for truth, faith, and spiritual growth.

Prayer

Father, thank You for giving me Your Word. I don’t want to just own a Bible — I want to live by it. Help me hunger for truth and grow in understanding as I read. Open my heart to hear Your voice, and help me build my life on Your Word instead of the shifting opinions of the world. Strengthen my faith and draw me closer to You with every page I turn. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Now that we know who God is and how He speaks, the next question becomes: What did He do to rescue us?
